Tetanus (Lockjaw)
SYMPTOMS may include stiffness in the jaw, arms, legs and neck, headache,
difficulty in swallowing and opening the jaw, a fixed smile and raised
eyebrow may be produced by a spasm of facial muscles, sore throat, fever and
may include convulsions.
CAUSES. A break in the skin by a puncture wound (such as a nail, insect bite
or a splinter) may allow soil and dust bacteria to enter & cause infection.
TREATMENT. Almost constant nursing and intensive treatment will be required.
.Medication to control muscle spasm, antibiotics and antitoxin prescribed.
.Can be prevented with immunization.
